All Affinity alliance schools are committed to developing highly effective leaders by providing coaching and secondment opportunities to provide key learning opportunities for leaders. All schools will be involved in talent-spotting and succession planning initiatives to ensure our Alliance schools have a supply of highly effective leaders to support school improvement.
Schools in the Alliance have developed common systems of identifying and supporting teachers who wish to become senior leaders, drawing on good practice nationally and from within the Alliance. This is built into recruitment strategies, CPD and performance management.
Opportunities to experience leadership roles in other schools are offered across the Alliance. This includes mentoring of aspiring, middle or senior leaders by more senior staff. Opportunities for some deputy or assistant Headteachers to take on an acting headship role are arranged where possible.
Information about development opportunities are made available across the Alliance. Part-time staff and those with very young children are included in planning opportunities for leadership development.
An annual list of list of teachers interested in leadership roles will be drawn up across the Alliance so that leadership development opportunities can be targeted at those most suited for them. These people will b offered coaching plans and those who have not developed further will be told what they need to do to progress further with leadership coaching.
Affinity TSA has developed a network of people in various leadership roles, e.g. Foundation Stage, Key Stage, Literacy and Numeracy leaders as well as SENCOs and Business Managers, who meet together at least termly to self direct school development and CPD needs of the group.
The Alliance aims to provide recommendations for Headteachers’ development across the Alliance and provide briefing sessions and a CPD strategy for existing heads.
